Can Your Organisation Decide as Fast as AI Can Execute?
AI is making execution cheap. Code, analysis, documentation, implementation options — the things that used to be expensive to produce are becoming abundant. That should be good news, and mostly it is. It's also creating a kind of pressure I don't think most organisations are ready for.
Here's the question I keep coming back to: if every engineer on your team became twice as productive next Monday, what would break first? My instinct is that it wouldn't be the code. It would be everything upstream of the code — how quickly the organisation can decide what's worth building, prioritise between options, and stay aligned once the pace of change picks up.
Production has never really been the constraint that mattered most. Decision quality has. AI just makes that gap harder to ignore.
This is an early observation, not a finished argument — I'm going to keep pulling on it. The next thread is what happens to risk and reversibility once execution stops being the bottleneck.
